Thanks for such an informative article! Both carts have their positive and negative sides. A lot of store owners think that BigCommerce and Shopify are almost identical. Sure there are some common peculiarities, but you’ve made a nice comparison and wrote about main differences.
Shopify undoubtedly wins in design. With more than 100 themes and all the interface tools store owners are able to create a unique design. BigCommerce also offers a wide range of themes, but you will have to apply little bit more efforts.
On the other hand, BigCommerce offers better shipping opportunities. Products can be easily delivered all over the world. At the same time Shopify’s shipping support is rather limited outside the North America. Moreover, Shopify takes 1-2% fee from every transaction. However, its their right and seems to me it is right considering support and intuitiveness they offer. In order to make a right decision, e-merchant have to evaluate his/her special needs and match them with platform’s opportunities.
