What you will do

The Visual and Interaction Designer at Stampede is a hybrid role combining UI design skills with a deeper focus on visual branding and user interaction. This role involves crafting visually cohesive, user-centred digital products that are beautiful but also functional and intuitive. You’ll shape the overall visual direction, ensuring brand integrity while also defining how users interact with our products through scalable design systems. If you’re a UI designer who enjoys working on both visual branding and interaction design, this role is for you.

Impact

As a Visual and Interaction Designer at Stampede, your work will bridge the gap between aesthetic design and user interaction. You’ll play a crucial role in ensuring that our products not only look stunning but also provide seamless, user-friendly experiences.

By creating scalable design systems, you’ll maintain consistency and future-proof the design across platforms while delivering both beauty and utility to the users. Your role ensures that every digital experience reflects both brand integrity and high usability standards.

Key Responsibilities

Visual design

  • Visual direction and branding: Take ownership of the product’s visual direction, ensuring that design decisions align with the brand’s identity and provide a consistent experience across all touchpoints.
  • Crafting visually compelling interfaces: Design visually engaging UI components, including buttons, icons, typography, and color schemes, that align with both user needs and brand identity.
  • Maintaining visual hierarchy: Ensure clear visual hierarchy and effective use of space to guide users’ attention and improve the overall user experience.

Interaction Design (IxD)

  • Designing intuitive user interactions: Create seamless user flows and interactive elements that guide users through the product with ease, focusing on how users navigate, click, scroll, and engage with the interface.
  • Prototyping and testing interactions: Develop prototypes that reflect real-world user behaviors and validate designs through testing and feedback, ensuring usability and user satisfaction.
  • Cross-platform consistency: Ensure that interaction patterns are responsive and consistent across different devices and platforms, adapting designs for various screen sizes and environments.

Design Style Guide and Pattern Library Development

  • Creating and managing a design style guide: Develop a comprehensive guide that outlines all visual elements (color schemes, typography, spacing, etc.) and interaction patterns, ensuring consistency and efficiency in design across the product.
  • Building and maintaining a pattern library: Create reusable UI components and interaction patterns that streamline the design process and ensure consistent user experiences. This includes ensuring components are adaptable across various platforms and devices.
  • Collaborating with developers: Work closely with front-end developers to implement the design system, ensuring that all components are aligned with design specifications and function as intended in the product.

Strategic Role in Design Systems

  • Establishing and evolving the design system: Lead the development and continuous improvement of a scalable design system that integrates both the style guide and pattern library, supporting the product’s long-term growth and adaptability.
  • Ensuring design scalability: Making sure the design system supports future product iterations, allowing the team to maintain consistency as the product evolves.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Collaborate with UX designers, product managers, and developers to ensure the design system reflects the broader product strategy and business goals.

Inclusive design

  • Designing for accessibility: Ensure all designs are accessible, meeting the needs of users with diverse abilities.
  • Creating inclusive experiences: Embed inclusivity into all stages of design to create solutions for all users, ensuring usability and enjoyment across demographics.

Key requirements

  • Relevant academic qualifications in Graphic Design, Multimedia and relevant fields
  • Strong case study and portfolio showing concept exploration, brand alignment and creative execution with human-centred focus.
  • Strong capabilities in visual design, including typography, color theory, and visual hierarchy, with attention to detail in crafting visually cohesive interfaces.
  • Expertise in interaction design principles, focusing on user flows and interaction patterns that enhance usability and user engagement.
  • Experience developing and maintaining style guides and pattern libraries, ensuring consistency across products.
  • Prototyping and wireframing skills using tools like Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD.
  • Collaboration with developers to ensure smooth implementation of design components within the codebase.
  • Responsive design expertise to ensure designs work seamlessly across devices and platforms.
  • Inclusive design skills, ensuring designs are accessible and usable for diverse user needs.
